DESCRIPTION: ...The Flood Warning continues for the following rivers in Minnesota... Minnesota River at Granite Falls HWY 212 affecting Chippewa, Yellow Medicine and Renville Counties. Minnesota River near Jordan affecting Carver, Scott and Sibley Counties. Minnesota River at New Ulm affecting Nicollet, Blue Earth and Brown Counties. Minnesota River at Morton affecting Renville and Redwood Counties. Minnesota River at Montevideo affecting Lac qui Parle, Chippewa and Yellow Medicine Counties. * WHAT...Minor flooding is occurring and forecast to continue. * WHERE...Minnesota River at Granite Falls HWY 212. * WHEN...Until Tuesday afternoon. * IMPACTS...At 885.0 feet, Flood waters begin to reach the alley way along the river at the foot bridge. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 615 PM CDT Wednesday, the stage was 886.5 feet. - Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending at 615 PM CDT Wednesday was 886.6 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to fall below flood stage Monday evening and continue falling to 884.6 feet Wednesday, July 16. - Flood stage is 885.0 feet. - Flood History...This crest compares to a previous crest of 886.5 feet on 04/29/2018.

INSTRUCTION: Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Caution is urged when walking near riverbanks.

A nimbostratus cloud is similar to a stratus cloud in its formless, smooth appearance. However, a nimbostratus cloud is darker than a stratus cloud, because it is thicker.

Unlike a stratus cloud, a nimbostratus cloud typically brings with it the threat of moderate to heavy precipitation. In some cases, the precipitation may evaporate before reaching the ground, a phenomenon known as virga.

Precipitation in the form of water droplets is called rain. Rain generally has a tendency to fall with less intensity over a greater period of time, and when rainfall is more severe it is usually less sustained.

Rain is the most common form of precipitation and happens with greater frequency depending on the season and regional influences. Cities have been shown to have an observable effect on rainfall, due to an effect called the urban heat island. Compared to upwind, monthly rainfall between twenty and forty miles downwind of cities is 30% greater.
